46 Arrested in Immigration Sting in New York State

Detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement

Officials of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the arrest of 46 individuals over the course of a five-day sting in upstate and western New York State. According to an ICE spokesperson, 23 of those arrested had been convicted of criminal offenses prior to their detainment by the agency. The crimes enumerated by ICE include weapons charges and grand larceny. For those facing deportation, retaining the services of a qualified New York immigration attorney can be a solid first step toward achieving a positive outcome for your case.

Part of a Pattern of Heightened Enforcement

Policies put in place by the Trump administration have increased ICE activity in New York and across the country. In 2017, ICE made 143,470 administrative arrests nationwide. Of that number, 13,600 people were guilty only of undocumented immigration. Many of the other individuals detained by ICE had initially been cited for relatively minor traffic infractions and other misdemeanors.
