Nonimmigrant Visa

If you are seeking a nonimmigrant visa, then contact one of our attorneys. You will greatly benefit from the legal aid that they can and will provide.

Not every visa is created for the purpose of establishing residency. In fact, many visas are simply for visitors who are looking to enter into the United States for a visit. This could be families looking to visit relatives, someone attempting to take advantage of the many prestigious colleges throughout the country or it could be a businessman or woman seeking investment opportunities.

There are essentially two different kinds of visas: immigrant visas and nonimmigrant visas. An immigrant visa is essentially the first stepping stone to becoming a legal resident or citizen of the United States. A nonimmigrant visa is for the purpose of visiting for a temporary period of time, and upon expiration of the visa, the visitor will return to their country. A nonimmigrant visa is a general term for a number of different temporary visas.

There are many different non-immigrant visas, some of which include:

  • Student Visas -These are used for individuals who wish to attend school (usually college or grad school) in the United States.
  • Tourist Visas -A tourist visa is generally combined with a business visa, so that with this particular visa, tourism and/or business can be conducted.
  • Investment Visa -The investment visa is also a short term, non-immigrant visa used in order to capitalize on an investment or business opportunity.
  • There are many other miscellaneous visas that fall under the category of non-immigrant visa, but these are some of the more common ones. It is important to know that there are many difficulties that arise while trying to obtain a visa and it is to your benefit to seek the legal aid of a skilled attorney.

Visa Waiver Program: Visiting Without a Visa

In the United States, there is what is known as the Visa Waiver Program which allows for residents of certain countries to travel into America for up to 90 days without having a visa. This is only for those who are coming into the country for business or tourism and was created to ease the strict guidelines required for people who are attempting to travel into the country to avoid unnecessary barriers. Currently, there are over 36 countries participating, including England, Australia, Germany, Sweden and more. To qualify under this program, the country must meet security requirements and have a high commitment to counterterrorism, law enforcement and border control.
