Senator Bernie Sanders has been gaining popularity in recent months as the growing attendance at his events has demonstrated. His stance on immigration is to aggressively push for humane and sensible immigration policies that keep families together. He stated recently that he would expand President Obama’s deferred action policy.
Sanders’ view is that deferred action should be granted to parents of citizens and awful permanent residents and to parents of DREAMers. Sanders said that we should be pursuing polices that keep families together rather than policies that tear families apart.
Sanders calls for an end of the discussion of mass removals or self-deportations and calls for a reasonable plan for a path to citizenship for the undocumented immigrants. He says that it is appalling that so many people advocated turning away undocumented immigrants.
Sanders says that America has always been a haven for the oppressed. He does not understand why so many want to reject the oppressed children who sought refuge in the United States.
Clearly, Sanders is an advocate for comprehensive immigration reform.
